Mark of Uru

Animation

A Nigerian award-winning animation film inspired by Igbo folk tales.

Azuka is a girl born with a birthmark identical to the tattoo of the evil sorceress Uru, who, a long time ago, was banished from the village. Azuka's mother tries to conceal the birthmark, but it is eventually discovered. Villagers decide to annihilate the child, in order to protect the community from the curse of Uru. But a fallen elemental being, Isi-Agu, and his apprentice Etido, intervene to forestall Azuka's execution. She is taken to safety on a sacred mountain, and from there embarks on a tortuous journey to unravel the mystery behind her bizarre birthmark.
