An inspiring tale about Abebe Bikila, who became an overnight celebrity when he won the marathon in Rome in 1960. On his return to Ethiopia, he was involved in an accident that left him paralyzed from his waist down, but that did not end his sports career. The Athlete seamlessly blends archive footage of the real Bikila with scenes performed by first-time actor Rasselas Lakew, who also co-wrote and co-directed.
