Marie is a serial media entrepreneur, television producer and writer. She is the founder and CEO of Buni TV and the co-founder and CEO of Buni Media, a multimedia company based in Nairobi, Kenya, and Los Angeles, California. Buni Media is the producer of The XYZ Show, Kenya’s top political satire show, followed by more than 10 million people every month
Marie is a regular speaker at conferences and film festivals worldwide about African media, digital distribution, and the power of mobile video to revolutionize the way content is being consumed on the continent.
Before becoming an entrepreneur, Marie had a first career as an award-winning television journalist, working across 3 continents for CNN, Reuters TV, AFP TV and the BBC World Service.
Julie MacArthur - Director of Content Acquisition
Dr. Julie MacArthur holds a PhD in African history from the University of Cambridge and has taught African history and culture at universities across Canada, the UK and East Africa.
She's the Assistant Professor of African history at the University of British Columbia and a Visiting Scholar with the Makerere Institute for Social Research in Kampala, Uganda.
MacArthur has worked as a programming associate with the Toronto International Film Festival and Film Africa in London and served as the Director of the Cambridge African Film Festival for several years.She has curated film programmes and regularly participates in film workshops and festivals across North America, Africa and the UK. At Buni TV she's in charge of leading our content licensing efforts, in particular with respect to signing premium content such as feature films, as Buni TV gears up to launch its premium subscription offer.
Andrew Mugoya - CTO
Andrew is a dad, husband and Founder and Technical Director of Asilia. As well as being an avid reader of almost any subject even slightly interesting, he is passionate about web technology and the endless possibilities and solutions it offers.
Andrew has vast experience working at Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan as Project Manager. He holds a Masters in Computer Science from Oxford University.
Roger Gichuhi - Digital Business Developer
Roger’s dream 3 years ago was to be in the film industry. His passion is in business and technology and how the two can leverage each other. Through this he aims to generate constant revenue to film producers so that they keep creating great content while at the same ensuring the best possible user experience for the consumers, all this while tackling the various distribution challenges in Africa and beyond.
Roger loves Africa and is proud to showcase it to the world. While he’s not busy figuring out stuff, you can find him in the nearest swimming pool, or on a quick adventure rendezvous.
Ivy Wairimu - Content Specialist
Ivy Wairimu is a lover of all things Digital Media, Web content development, Project Management and using I.T. to solve real world problems.
Having started her own e-commerce company before she is a go getter and works well under presure on things she enjoys. Prior to joining Buni TV, Ivy was at Praekelt Consulting, a South African based digital media consulting company that performs a wide variety of roles for it's various clients such as setting up Digital Strategy, Online Media Platforms(Sites, Mini-Sites, Social Media Platforms), running Digital Campaigns among other activities in the Digital sphere.
At Buni TV Ivy is in charge of Social Media and Email marketing together with curating content for the site.
Julian Macharia - Business Development Manager
Julian comes from a music and radio background. As a music producer, music remixer and studio engineer, he has worked with Kenya's best artists, including, Jua Cali, Nonini, and Eric Wainaina.
He also has a successful career in radio programming and management. He joined Royal Media Services when the company had only one radio station and helped it grow to its current 14, setting up and designing studios, recruiting and training presenters, and ultimately building and maintaining their audiences. He is currently the group’s Deputy Programs Director.
As Buni TV’s and Buni Media's Business Development Manager, Julian is in charge of establishing contacts and partnerships with various companies and organizations, developing Buni Media's revenue-generating activities, and promoting the company’s products on all media platforms.
Monica Obaga - Content Specialist
Monica Obaga would marry narrative if It would have her. Film is her favorite way of experiencing stories. Her dream is to improve upon the film tax credit system, and be part of creating and sharing geekable African content (like Who Fears Death 3D, who's with me!?).
She left her hometown, Nairobi, in 2007 after being an analyst, playing lead in Mo Faya! the musical, and opening for Eric Wainaina with an original, hour long, live set powered by a ten piece band.
She spent the last two years blogging about African filmmaking, and 2010 coordinating the Philadelphia Film Festival. Apart from Buni TV, she is a music blogger, Photographer and Social Media Manager in based in Los Angeles.
Barbara Muriungi - Brand Manager/Visual Designer
Barbara Muriungi is a Kenyan designer, animator, and photographer whose designs have been featured extensively in the United States and around the world.
In addition to her own work (whose clients include HBO, Disney, and Fuse), she is the editor of African Digital Art, an online forum featuring professional and emerging artists’ digital talent.
At Buni TV she is the Brand Manager and Visual Designer. She keeps up the visual look on the desktop and mobile site, mobile apps, print material and Buni TV placement in other platforms.
